Case 9: Vertex Pharmaceuticals

Situation:

The client had a multi-story building with retail space on ground level and research labs on 2nd, 3rd and 4th levels. The client wanted to set-up a central solvent dispensing system to supply five different solvents to solvent dispensing fume hoods located in different labs on these floors. The solvent waste from all the labs was collected in solvent waste collection system located on first floor with piping passing through designated retail space. The solvent supply rooms were to be equipped with LEL monitor, an oxygen monitor and leak detection systems used to shut-down the system in case of oxygen depletion or solvent leak.

The Approach:

Panorama designed sophisticated solvent dispensing and waste collection systems for the client. The solvent dispensing system was controlled by a PLC based system and at each designated dispensing fume hood was controlled by a relay based system to dispense an accurate amount of any one of the five solvents at any given time. The solvent waste from labs was collected by gravity drain in waste collection system. Panorama was involved in nearly all phases of project execution.
